Of the Appetite of the World

From his eyes, his fingers, his lips and tongue he brings the very essence of nature into the body. Dishes invade the head with colours and flavours that become the senses and meanings of life, without even having to be named.

I’m hungry for you. I eat you so that you will be inside me: you – the warrior that fights me, the love that has already devoured my head. I’m hungry for you. For you to be inside me with your flesh and your feathers, your taste and your smell, your water, your salt, your fire and wind, your heaven and your earth.

The day I am no longer hungry for you I will dry up like an abandoned lover.

To eat, to cook, this is what Revue Noire has been trying to do since the first issue: prepare a stew of the world to eat to your fill. Gathering meats, fruits, vegetables and spices to make the food of the world. A world of image to satisfy the body. Cooking is neither a metaphor nor an art, it is a functional necessity to make the body and the senses live: it means setting up a rite, finding a form to share with everyone. Dying of hunger means killing our life together.

Today.
